A diverse selection of wines from Argentina—a representation of their country's richness. A unique collection of plots from the Bemberg family's greatest estates, transformed into wines with their family's signature, uniting the past, present, and future in a tribute to a centennial pedigree.
The Bemberg family may be traced back to the little German village of Langenberg in the second part of the 16th century. It was here that Conrad zum Bimberg, the family's earliest known ancestor, had a vast plot of land where he began planting his first vines, a fascinating hobby that still flows deep through their veins centuries later.
Although family documents link the family's early beginnings to Conrad zum Bimberg's birth, many historians place the family's true beginnings in the first half of the nineteenth century, with Otto Peter Bemberg as its founder.
Otto moved from the Old World in 1850 and set off on a journey to South America, eventually settling in Argentina. The family has been fascinated by wine since its inception and has sought to keep in touch with it on both sides of the Atlantic Ocean: as an ancient passion of those living in the Old World, through the planting of vines in Mendoza in 1920; and in the New World, through the purchase of estates in Napa Valley, California, in 1996.
Gradually, their vision of a collection of unique wines displaying the best of each family-owned vineyard in Argentina began to take shape until it became the family's pride to have its own label. Every bottle, flavor, and color—even every bottle cap—made from cork oaks from the family's Ciguiuelas estate in Spain represents the family's unwavering commitment to realizing its ambition.
The depth of the gravel layer was then measured with a soil penetrometer in thousands of spots across the property to create a highly precise soil map. This precious tool was instrumental in determining what grape varieties, clones, and rootstocks to plant, as well as the planting densities and many other considerations.
The warm summer days and cool nights that characterize the Uco Valley’s growing season give intense ripe fruit and vibrant acidity to the region’s wines. A signature floral perfume is also commonly found here. The ‘El Tomillo’ vineyards are particularly distinct, with their wild thyme and diverse soils adding complex earthy, herbal aromas.
Finca El Milagro is located in the La Consulta area and sits at 1130 above sea level. This lofty height brings a cooling affect that allows the region’s wines to maintain vibrant acidity. The combination of high altitude, intense sunshine, and sandy soils yields expressive wines that ably balance finesse and power. On the palate, these full-bodied, structured wines are wonderfully fresh with velvety tannins. Aromas and flavors of ripe black fruits are lifted by signature notes of wild violets.
With just under 30 hectares still to plant, Finca El Tomillo has big plans for the future. The team intends to reverse the current emphasis on white wine to focus on majority red wine production. The new vineyard currently being planted will consist of the red grape varieties Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot.
“I remember tasting La Linterna Malbec La Consulta 2013 the first time. Even if we knew La Consulta’s potential, I was surprised by its delicacy, elegance, and power.”
Daniel Pi was recognized in 2017 as the best winemaker in Argentina by the prestigious Tim Atkin, one of the world's greatest "Masters of Wine." He completed his training in the field of winemaking at the Faculty of Enology of Don Bosco in Mendoza before venturing into the wine industry. Over the years, he has trained in countless wine regions, mainly in Europe and North America. His extensive experience has led him to participate as a speaker in symposiums around the world, in addition to being invited each year to be a judge in the most renowned national and international wine competitions.
Daniel Pi uses traditional practices, but he loves to take advantage of more innovative practices to achieve his goals. He has developed expertise in the various family terroirs of Argentina, gaining a better understanding of the particular characteristics of each area, their soil, and their climate.
His passion for exploration led him to travel all over the country to plant vineyards, even in places where it was unimaginable to grow vines. The perfect example would be the case of the Chapadmalal region, located only 6 kilometers from the Atlantic coast, where he elaborated the first oceanic-influenced wines of the country.
Over the course of his career, he has won countless awards for each of the wines he has helped produce, repeatedly exceeding 95 points from prestigious wine critics such as Tim Atkin, James Suckling, Decanter, International Wine Challenge, and others.
