Château Giscours: Grand Cru Classé of Margaux

Château Giscours is one of the most iconic wine estates in the Margaux appellation of Bordeaux. Classified as a Grand Cru Classé in the 1855 classification, Giscours is celebrated for wines that combine power, finesse, and expressive character, reflecting the exceptional terroir of the Médoc.

A long heritage of excellence

Giscours has a rich history that dates back to 1552, when Pierre de Lhomme began expanding the vineyard. Over the centuries, visionary owners such as Jean‑Pierre Pescatore, Edouard Cruse, and, more recently, the Albada Jelgersma family have shaped the estate. Since 1995, the Albada Jelgersmas have modernized the property, combining respect for tradition with a pursuit of quality. The mermaid, now a symbol of the estate, adorns the label and inspired the name of the second wine, La Sirène de Giscours.

Exceptional terroir and attentive viticulture

Giscours’ vineyards are planted on deep gravel soils that provide excellent drainage and create ideal conditions for Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc. The winery continuously develops sustainable viticulture practices that protect the soil and biodiversity while nurturing each vine with precision and care.

A classic wine of precision

Each vintage of Château Giscours is crafted with meticulous attention, from vineyard selection to winemaking in concrete and stainless steel vats, and aging in French oak barrels. The result is a wine distinguished by its structure, freshness, elegant tannins, and expressive aromatic profile — qualities that make it one of the most respected wines of the Médoc.

The estate’s portfolio

In addition to the flagship Château Giscours, the estate produces:

  • La Sirène de Giscours – the second wine, elegant and harmonious.
  • Haut‑Médoc Giscours – a separate interpretation of the terroir with aromatic appeal.
  • Rosé x Giscours – a modern rosé wine showing finesse and signature style.

Behind the wines

Today managed by the Albada Jelgersma family, Château Giscours remains committed to innovation and excellence while honoring Bordeaux’s winemaking heritage. Each year, the technical teams work with dedication to express the personality of every plot and craft wines that are balanced, complex, and built for elegant aging.
