Hubert de Boüard de Laforest, the winery's owner, has a deep appreciation for the terroirs of Lalande-de-Pomerol. This appreciation is the source of Château La Fleur de Boüard. He applies his technical and oenological expertise in an innovative, environmentally friendly method of wine cultivation, assisted by his daughter Coralie. The de Boüard family produces wines of exceptional elegance that rival the best Bordeaux appellations with precision and a commitment to sustainability.
Hubert de Boüard de Laforest had long believed that Lalande-de-Pomerol estates could produce exceptional wines capable of competing with the finest Bordeaux appellations. In 1998, he acquired this 25-hectare property. Coralie, his daughter, works alongside him on the estate, sharing her father’s passion for vine care and winemaking. Philippe Nunes, their technical director, strengthens the team’s capabilities. As the team’s synergies grew, the family’s goal of giving this estate the attention it deserved evolved.
The estate that became Château La Fleur de Boüard previously belonged to a postman who cared devotedly for his grapes. It is located in the Lalande-de-Pomerol appellation near the hamlet of Pomerol. The de Boüard family purchased vines in excellent condition, well-planted and not overexploited. Since then, the family has adhered to strict guidelines that preserve natural balance, allowing them to uncover the most exquisite secrets of the terroir and produce wines of the highest quality, fully representative of the appellation.
To fully understand the potential of this terroir, Hubert and Coralie explored it together. Coralie, raised among the family vineyards at Château Angélus in Saint-Émilion, was confident, along with her father, that Lalande-de-Pomerol could produce exceptional wines.
The climate is ideal for viticulture, being sunny, warm, and humid, with soils rich and close to the tributaries of the Isle and Dordogne Rivers. Warm temperatures encourage early flowering of the vines. The frequent use of “La Fleur” in estate names in this region may reflect this local characteristic.
All flowers draw strength from the soil. The soils at Château La Fleur de Boüard, composed mainly of clay, gravel, and sand, are perfect for the planted varieties: 80% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc, and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon.
The de Boüard family works diligently to nurture these early blooms into plump, juicy, and flavorful grapes. Achieving this requires a rigorous strategy grounded in long-standing winegrowing traditions and supported by scientific and oenological knowledge.
To transform Hubert de Boüard de Laforest’s intuitive vision into a solid family enterprise, the vineyard was reorganized over roughly twelve years. Throughout this period, quality was fundamentally improved through technological innovation.
The family’s expertise is dedicated to a relentless pursuit of excellence and beauty. They have applied their renowned scientific and oenological skills to cutting-edge technical and architectural projects. Modern buildings combining the elegance of glass with the dignity of timber exemplify this daring approach.
The estate features an oenological lab that supports experiments and research related to vine care and wine production. Its vathouse, unparalleled worldwide, is the main innovation. Wines are produced using a state-of-the-art system of hanging, inverted truncated cone-shaped tanks.
These investments enable the extraction of the region’s best aromas and the production of renowned wines that compete with the top Bordeaux brands. The pursuit of harmony, refinement, and elegance that gave birth to Château La Fleur de Boüard, Le Plus de La Fleur de Boüard, and Le Lion de La Fleur de Boüard is embodied in these three acclaimed cuvées, establishing the estate’s family legacy.
