Tenuta Rapitalà: Sicily’s legacy of terroir and elegance

Tenuta Rapitalà is a distinguished winery located amid the rolling hills between Camporeale and Alcamo in Sicily. Bathed in Mediterranean sunlight and caressed by sea breezes, this fertile land produces wines that express the history, terroir, and vitality of the island.

A story of rebirth

The Rapitalà story begins in 1968 when Hugues Bernard de la Gatinais, a French nobleman from Saint‑Malo, and Gigi Guarrasi, from a prominent Palermo family, undertook the reconstruction of a vineyard devastated by the Belice Valley earthquake. With a pioneering vision that merges Sicilian tradition and French know‑how, they replanted vines and laid the foundations of a unique wine estate.

A rich and diverse terroir

The estate covers hills between 300 and 600 m above sea level, where clay, sand, and limestone soils capture light and maritime influence. This mosaic of terroirs gives each vineyard its own character, which Rapitalà expresses through sustainable viticulture and careful agricultural practices.

Philosophy and viticulture

Rapitalà’s approach is rooted in listening to the land and respecting nature. Each plot is tended with care to bring out the authentic character of the grapes. The estate also embraces sustainable and organic practices, strengthening the bond between soil, vine, and wine.

Wines that speak of Sicily

Rapitalà’s portfolio spans vibrant whites and elegant, structured reds that reflect the island’s diversity. The “Giardino di Famiglia” Collection embodies the estate’s vision with cuvées like “Conte Hugues” Chardonnay and the iconic Cabernet Sauvignon/Nero d’Avola blend “Hugonis.” Other lines such as “La Tenuta,” “Shades of Sicily,” and “Bouquet” explore distinct aspects of Sicilian character in the glass.

Innovation meets tradition

Rapitalà strikes a balance between local traditions and French influence. Indigenous grapes such as Nero d’Avola, Grillo, and Catarratto stand alongside international varieties like Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, and Syrah, resulting in wines that combine Mediterranean authenticity with refined elegance.

Behind the wines

For more than five decades, the estate has stayed true to its founding vision: each wine is an honest expression of Sicily’s landscape, crafted with passion, expertise, and respect for the land. Today, Rapitalà is one of Sicily’s most respected wine estates, known for the quality, diversity, and authenticity of its wines.
