UNIQUENESS IN CHIANTI CLASSICO

The Lamole di Lamole winery has its home in Greve in Chianti, in Florence, within Italy’s oldest and most famous appellations, Chianti Classico. Its vineyards stand on one of the region’s highest points, between 350 and 655 metres a.s.l., a location which provides the ideal temperature variations, sunlight and winds for excellent ripening of the grapes and gives a particular elegance, richness and persistence to the aroma and flavour potential of its wines.

A TRADITION OVER 700 YEARS OLD

Lamole is a diffuse but once heavily populated hamlet, which has always formed a single entity with the surrounding countryside, modelled over the centuries by the strenuous work of man and where iris and broom insinuate themselves between the vine rows and in the olive groves.

THE LAMOLE TERROIR

The most likely origin of the name of Lamole derives from the characteristic “blades” (lame) of land, gullies carved out by the elements over the course of thousands of years. Talking about Lamole means telling the story of Chianti Classico, that from high-altitude vineyards, one of the finest terroirs in which to cultivate vines and olive trees.

  • Continental climate with low summer rainfall, winds and wide fluctuations in temperature
  • Protection from cold north winds by the Chianti hills
  • Soils of Eocene origin (formed by emergence) made up of Tuscan ‘macigno’, a mix of ‘galestro’ and ‘albarese’ rock. Excellent drainage and rich in nutrients and minerals
  • Terraces of dry stone walls, built using indigenous stone, reflect sunlight thus increasing photosynthesis and absorb heat during the day and release it overnight

SUSTAINABILITY

At Lamole, since 2005, they have begun a process of sustainable conversion of the land, which now allows them to cultivate their vineyards in an entirely organic way. This includes the use of organic compost, of “resistance inducers” and natural substances, without having to use chemical products in the vineyards. All of these practices have as their objective the enhancement of their wines’ territorial characteristics.

WINEMAKING PHILOSOPHY

As part of their belief that tradition is dynamic, their wines are aged in casks made from premium French oak, which are similar in size to modern steel tanks. This allows them to achieve excellent ageing while also reducing and balancing the effect of the wood on the natural aromas of the Sangiovese.

BEHIND THE WINES

Andrea Daldin – Winemaker of Lamole di Lamole

Andrea has been Lamole di Lamole's winemaker since 1993 - same year in which Lamole di Lamole entered Santa Margherita Wine Group.

He's from Trento (a city in the very North of Italy), but he left his hometown moving to Tuscany and started working in the vineyards.

Initially he worked in Gaiole in Chianti, but then - at nearly 20 years old - he decided to move to Greve in Chianti and started working at Lamole di Lamole.

Since then, Andrea laid the foundations of what Lamole di Lamole is today. Uniqueness in Chianti Classico.
